CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Division of Police has announced that two men have been arrested for their alleged roles in the fatal shooting of a woman that happened earlier this month. Police add that the arrests are related to the execution of a search warrant in Garfield Heights that resulted in SWAT officers fatally shooting a dog.
According to Cleveland Division of Police Public Information Officer Sergeant Wilfredo Diaz, the arrests of 34-year-old Alontez Beasley and 49-year-old Jamar Skanes happened as part of a coordinated effort on Friday morning.
The two were taken into custody in connection with the death of Alyson Appling-France earlier this month. Diaz told 3News that Appling-France was fatally shot on Jan. 10 in the area of West 103rd Street and Detroit Avenue.
"While these arrests mark a critical milestone in the case, the investigation remains active and ongoing," Diaz added.
Garfield Heights police officials say the incident involving the shot dog happened while the SEALE (SouthEast Area Law Enforcement) SWAT team was assisting Cleveland police with the serving a homicide warrant on Osborn Road in Garfield Heights. Police told 3News that upon entering the home, a SWAT officer was attacked by a dog, resulting in the firing of one shot. The dog died as a result of its injuries. Police officials confirmed that no other shots were fired by SWAT members or person(s) in the home.
Beasley and Skanes were found at a different location from where the SWAT incident took place.
