ASHTABULA, Ohio — Three people have been arrested in connection with the shooting death of 25-year-old Fredrick Johnson in Ashtabula, which authorities say happened around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday on Ohio Avenue near the intersection of Lambros Lane.
Two suspects were located in Roaming Shores by the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office within an hour after the shooting. Both were arrested without incident and taken to the Ashtabula City Jail.
Police say the third suspect was captured Wednesday afternoon by the Mahoning County Safe Streets Task Force in Poland, Ohio. He was taken to the Geneva City Jail and is being held on warrants unrelated to this incident.
Two of the suspects have since been identified as follows:
- Malikhi Jermaine Coleman: He's charged with murder, discharging a firearm at or near prohibited premises and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle. He's currently being held on a $1 million bond.
- Julius Devon Simmons: He's charged with two counts of tampering with evidence, discharging a firearm at or near prohibited premises and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle. He's being held on a $300,000 bond.
The third suspect's name has not yet been released.
When officers arrived at the scene of the shooting, they found Johnson laying on the road with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to Ashtabula County Medical Center where he died a short time later.
“Witnesses stated multiple individuals were firing shots at each other in the street and then fled the area in vehicles shortly prior to the arrival of the police,” according to a press release Thursday from the Ashtabula Police Department.
