East Cleveland Police: 8-year-old girl in critical condition after being shot by 17-year-old boy

U.S. Marshals are assisting in the search for the shooter.

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — An 8-year-old girl is in critical condition at University Hospitals after being shot in the head on Sunday evening in East Cleveland. 

Police say the shooting happened in the 1800 block of Forest Hills Blvd. in the rear parking lot. Officers found the child with a gunshot wound to her head at around 8:30 p.m. She was rushed to University Hospitals, where she had surgery and is currently in the Intensive Care Unit. 

The shooter has been identified by police as a 17-year-old boy. U.S. Marshals have joined the East Cleveland Police Department in the search for the teen.
