CLEVELAND — Former Lake Catholic teacher Andrew PIczer has been indicted on four counts of felony sexual battery by a Cuyahoga County grand jury.
“Teachers are entrusted to educate and provide safe environments for their students. Mr. Piczer violated that trust by engaging in sexual conduct with his student and he will be held accountable," said Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O'Malley in a statement to 3News.
Court records show the date of the alleged offense involving Piczer and a student was Oct. 22.
The Diocese of Cleveland told 3News that Piczer was placed on administrative leave after allegations of inappropriate behavior were made. After findings of a police investigation, Piczer's employment at Lake Catholic High School was terminated on Dec. 21.
"The safety and wellbeing of its students is always the highest priority for the administration at Lake Catholic High School, and its leaders will not hesitate to act in their best interests," the diocese told 3News in a statement.
The Mentor Police Department previously told 3News that they investigated the matter and determined that any inappropriate contact that may have occurred would have happened in Lakewood. Following their investigation, Mentor police turned over the case to the Lakewood Police Department.
Piczer was indicted on Tuesday. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court on Jan. 16.
