KENT, Ohio — Police confirm an 18-year-old man is facing a felony charge after allegedly making a threat against Kent Roosevelt High School.
According to department spokesman Lieutenant Mike Lewis, Meier Logan Gillespie was arrested Thursday in Cuyahoga Falls on one count of making terroristic threats. Officials say Gillespie posted on social media that he was going to blow up the school.
When reached by 3News for further comment, Lewis said Gillespie is a former Kent Roosevelt student who graduated just this past spring and now attends the University of Akron. The FBI and Gillespie's parents played a role in tracking him down, per a news release.
Gillespie purportedly told investigators the post "was meant as a joke," but police claim he previously made the same threat on two separate occasions. As a result of concerns for students' safety, Kent PD increased security at Roosevelt High Thursday afternoon.
Records show Gillespie was released from custody Friday after posting 10% of a $150,000 bond. He is due back in Kent Municipal Court next Friday for a preliminary hearing, and in the meantime is banned from all Kent City School District property.
WKYC has contacted the school district for a statement on the matter, but has not yet heard back.
