18-year-old man in custody after shooting at Garfield Heights Pizza Hut; victim in critical condition

Garfield Heights police say no charges have been filed as of yet. The shooting happened at the Pizza Hut on Turney Road.

GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — Police say an 18-year-old man is in custody following a shooting at the Pizza Hut in Garfield Heights on Wednesday evening. 

According to a release from Garfield Heights Police Chief Mark Kaye, the incident at the Turney Road restaurant happened just before 10:30 p.m. When police arrived, they found a 20-year-old man from Garfield Heights shot several times. The victim was taken first to Cleveland Clinic Marymount Hospital, then transferred to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he is in critical condition.

Police believe that the shooting was an "isolated incident" and the two men apparently knew each other prior to the incident.

Kaye says the 18-year-old man was taken into custody several blocks away from the where the shooting took place. Garfield Heights police detectives are continuing to investigate the incident. No charges have been filed as of yet.
