AKRON, Ohio — Hallie Maczko, the 33-year-old woman charged in connection with a deadly crash that happened in Green earlier this year, has been sentenced to serve six to nine years behind bars.
Authorities say it was around 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, when Maczko was driving a 2010 Subaru that went off the roadway and crashed into a home on Barth Drive in Green. 69-year-old Robert D. Shull Jr., who was sleeping inside the home, died after being struck by the vehicle.
At Monday's sentencing in Summit County Common Pleas Court, Maczko gave the following statement:
I want to begin by saying that I’m so very sorry and I want to apologize to the entire Shull family. Everything that I’ve learned about Robert Shull tells me he was a good, decent man. I know how devastated you are by his loss. I need you to know that I want to change and I’m ready. I’m an alcoholic and I can never drink or take drugs again. In the past I’ve lied to myself and my family about my addiction. Mr. Shull’s death forced me to face my disease and ask and pray for help. I’m going to continue my sobriety and counseling while I’m in prison. When I get released, I’m going to dedicate my life to staying sober and becoming a better person. I just want to say again how sorry I am.
The judge also gave Maczko a lifetime license suspension.
“You have to change your life," the judge said. "You have to make this turn at this point.”

Sentencing came after court records show Maczko pleaded guilty to felony charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, possession of cocaine and aggravated possession of drugs along with a misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle while under the influence.
As a result of her guilty plea, court records show two counts of operating a vehicle while under the influence were dismissed.
Nearly a month after the deadly crash, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office released toxicology results that reported Maczko’s alcohol level upon admission to the hospital was .374 grams by weight of alcohol per one hundred milliliters of urine.
