PAINESVILLE, Ohio — Lake County Sheriff Frank Leonbruno is asking residents to remove keys from their vehicles when not in use and to lock the doors especially during the overnight hours.
Leonbruno says that over the past few weeks there have been multiple stolen vehicles from car dealerships and private residents throughout the county.
The most recent theft was Friday morning on Concord Hambden Road in Concord. The owner had left the keys in the vehicle and it was stolen around 5 a.m.
Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers spotted the stolen vehicle on I-90, but traffic got too heavy and the pursuit was called off as speeds reached more than 100 mph.
Prior to this incident in Concord, a vehicle was stolen in Madison from a resident's driveway. The keys were also left in that vehicle.
The common denominators are that keys were left in an unlocked vehicle and the thefts are occurring between 3-7 a.m.
The sheriff is asking everyone not to leave keys in an unlocked vehicle.
Anyone having information on these stolen vehicles are asked to call the Lake County Sheriff's office at 440-350-5620.
