ELYRIA, Ohio — David Richards, the CEO and president of Lorain County-based LifeCare Ambulance, Inc., was arrested by Elyria police on Thursday and faces charges of theft.
According to a release from the Elyria Police Department, Richards was apprehended by members of the investigative division and charged with theft-by-deception, a fourth-degree felony.
Police say the investigation stems from accusations against Richards for expensing unauthorized charges to LifeCare Ambulance Services. Richards was taken to the Lorain County Jail, where he will remain until posting bond or appearing in court.
The investigation is ongoing.
According to his LinkedIn page, Richards has served as the CEO and president of LifeCare since July, 2019. He previously served as the company's chief financial officer from 2012-2019.
LifeCare is a private entity that provides emergency medical services for the city of Elyria. According to its website, LifeCare has a fleet of 60 vehicles and provides 911 EMS services to approximately 160,000 citizens in northern Lorain County. It is also the preferred provider for two large hospital systems and many nursing homes in he county.
The Elyria Police Department says city administrators have been in contact with LifeCare and have been assured that there will be no disruption in current services.
