LORAIN, Ohio — Mayor of Lorain Jack Bradley confirmed to 3News that Matthew Homolya has resigned from his position as Lorain's assistant fire chief.
The news comes amid an ongoing legal battle where Homolya is being charged for allegedly attacking a neighbor. According to Bradley, a posting will be made for a new assistant chief for the qualified candidates within Lorain's fire department.
On April 21, 2022, a Lorain County grand jury returned an indictment against Homolya in connection with an alleged assault that took place on March 9, after a Ring doorbell camera captured him beating up one of his neighbors in Brownhelm Township.
Homolya faces felony charges of aggravated burglary and animal cruelty as well as lesser charges of assault and failure to confine a dog on premises.
Prior to resigning, Homolya had been on administrative leave from the fire department since the incident happened. He faces more than a decade in prison if he is found guilty, with a pre-trial court date currently set for Aug. 31.
