AKRON, Ohio — A U.S. District Judge sentenced a Lorain man to 15 years in prison for the distribution and possession of fentanyl.
Gregory Ralston, 33, was previously found guilty on the following charges:
- Distributing fentanyl
- Possessing fentanyl with intent to distribute
According to court documents, Ralston made a fentanyl sale on May 13, 2020. Detectives from the Lorain and Elyria Police Departments and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents then arrested Ralston outside of a business the next day on the charges in which he was eventually convicted.
In a press release, the Department of Justice explains how the investigation of Ralston was initiated:
"The investigation was conducted by Lorain Police Department and the FBI as part of Operation Synthetic Opioid Surge (S.O.S.), a joint law enforcement initiative that seeks to reduce the supply of deadly synthetic opioids and to identify wholesale distribution networks and international and domestic suppliers in Lorain County."
