SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio — A man accused of killing his 91-year-old mother in South Euclid in 2021 was acquitted on all charges by a judge on Wednesday.
A trial for Marcus Henry began on Monday after he had been indicted on several charges related to the death of his mother, Essie Mae Henry. The elder Henry's body was found near the intersection of Warrensville Center and Colony Roads on Nov. 4, 2021, with the Cuyahoga County medical examiner later ruling she died via homicide from blunt force injuries.
"There were bumps and bruises on her body," Officer Joe Dilillo with the South Euclid Police Department told 3News at the time, adding that Essie Mae Henry was known to take frequent walks in the area.
Then 50-years-old, Marcus Henry was arrested in January 2022 and indicted on the following charges:
- Three counts of Aggravated Murder
- One count of Kidnapping
- Four counts of Murder
- One count of Felonious Assault
- One count of Offenses Against Human Corpse
The state strongly objected against Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Judge Cassandra Collier-Williams' decision to acquit Henry on all charges. The court cited insufficient evidence as the reason for the acquittal.
