CLEVELAND — A 17-year-old boy is in custody following an hourslong standoff in Cleveland late Monday night and early Tuesday morning.
Police say the incident began in Shaker Heights just before 10:45 p.m., where the suspect reportedly tried to steal a Kia vehicle in the 12000 block of Larchmere Boulevard. As officers attempted to arrest him, he allegedly ran away and fired a handgun, although no one was struck by bullets.
The teen eventually made his way to the 2000 block of East 126th Street in Cleveland, climbing on top of a house garage after attempting to break into the home. As he stood on the structure, law enforcement blocked off the area and began negotiating, and the suspect was eventually detained around 3:40 a.m.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. No injuries were reported among officers.
