Suspect arrested in connection with deadly Halloween party shooting at Mansfield Airbnb appears in court

Mansfield detectives took 22-year-old Cyrus J. Ellerbee into custody on Wednesday on a charge of murder.

MANSFIELD, Ohio — The Mansfield Division of Police has arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of two teens at a Halloween Airbnb party last month.

According to a release, detectives took 22-year-old Cyrus J. Ellerbee into custody on Wednesday on a charge of murder after consultation with the Richland County Prosecutor's Office.

A $5 million bond and a no-contact order with the alleged victims and their families was set for Ellerbee during his first court appearance on Thursday morning.

The incident happened at around 11:40 p.m. on Oct. 27 at a house in the 800 block of Ferndale Road. Police later confirmed that the house was an Airbnb rental hosting a Halloween party. Officers received multiple calls about shots being fired and people running from the nearby area.

Up to 50 people were inside the home at the time of the shooting.

A 17 and 18-year-old were found dead inside the home. The four other teens that were shot ranged in age from 14-19 years old. One of the four that were hit walked away thanks to their phone, which helped stop the bullet.

Police says guns and drugs were collected by officers as they searched for evidence.

Investigators have been in contact with Mansfield City Schools as they work to track down exactly which students were at the party. 3News did confirm with the district that at least some of those shot went to Mansfield High School.

"The Mansfield Division of Police would like to thank the community for their support and diligence thus far while reminding everyone that the investigation into this shooting incident is ongoing and detectives are continuing to gather additional facts," police officials added in the release.

Mansfield police are encouraging any member of the community that has information about the investigation, to call the department's crime tip line at (419) 522-7463 and remain anonymous or contact Detective Sergeant Jered Kingsborough at (419) 755-9729 or Detective Korey Kaufman at (419) 755-9748.
