MILLERSBURG, Ohio — A 46-year-old man was arrested last week for allegedly assaulting several people, including with his vehicle, during a freshman high school football game in Holmes County.
According to Holmes County Sheriff Tim Zimmerly, deputies arrested Raymond D. Korns II of New Philadelphia on October 12 following a reported assault at Knights Stadium on the campus of West Holmes High School in Millersburg.
Investigators determined that Korns was on the home side of the stadium during the game and struck two adult men in the stands, causing "visible injuries" to both. Sheriff's deputies says Korns then went to his car, a silver Honda Civic, and attempted to flee the scene. As Korns was departing, he allegedly struck an adult pedestrian who was attempting to keep him from leaving. The pedestrian suffered minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene.
A 72-year-old man sustained injuries to his face and was taken by his family to Pomerene Hospital. A third injured person also declined treatment.
After leaving the stadium, Korns was spotted on State Route 39 by a deputy responding to the initial call and stopped. He was later arrested and taken to Holmes County Jail and booked on charges of assault and leaving the scene of an accident. Korns was arraigned a day later and released on $50,000 cash/surety bond.
This incident remains under investigation.
