STARK COUNTY, Ohio — A suspect is in custody after a 35-year-old man was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Roadway Inn in Jackson Township on Sunday night, the Jackson Township Police Department has announced.
According to police, officers were called to the scene of the hotel located at 6880 Sunset Strip for a report of a man down in the parking lot at approximately 11:30 p.m. The man was transported to Mercy Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The victim's name has yet to be released.
Following an investigation, the Jackson Township Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for a suspect, Cortez Wendell Watson of Canton. Watson was arrested by the US Marshalls, Stark County Sheriff's Office, FBI Safe Streets and Canton Police Department at 12:30 p.m. and charged with the following:
- Murder 1, Felony
- Felonious Assault, Felony 2
- Having Weapons While Under Disability, Felony 3
Earlier on Monday, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation told 3News that its team was requested by Jackson Township to assist with processing a crime scene, but did not elaborate on the situation.
