CLEVELAND — Cleveland police say they arrested two suspects in connection with an alleged assault and kidnapping of a woman from an RTA station Sunday afternoon. While the woman remained missing after their arrests, the spokesperson with the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority provided an update Tuesday morning, telling 3News that she has since been found safe.
The RTA released the following statement at 6:08 a.m. Tuesday: "The GCRTA Transit Police Department located the woman who was abducted yesterday afternoon from the West Blvd-Cudell Station and we are happy to report that she is safe. The GCRTA Transit Police Department continues to investigate this incident and would like to thank the Cleveland Division of Police for their assistance."
When 3News asked the RTA for more information about where the woman was found, we received the following response: "No additional information at this time. The investigation is still active."
The incident occurred on Sunday, April 3 at approximately 3 p.m. at the RTA station located at 10108 Detroit Avenue. RTA employees say they witnessed a female being assaulted and forced into a vehicle, which then fled the scene.
The vehicle, a black Toyota RAV4 with dealer plates, was located Sunday evening outside of a building at West 104th Street and Lorain Avenue. Police towed the vehicle and arrested two men in connection with the kidnapping.
The Cleveland Division of Fire was on scene to assist, according to spokesperson Lt. Mike Norman. They helped search the roof of a nearby building.
The Cleveland Division of Police is assisting the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority Police Department in the investigation of this incident.
