WILLOUGHBY HILLS, Ohio — A 65-year-old man has been hospitalized after police say he was shot during a carjacking at a Willoughby Hills apartment complex.
According to Chief Matthew Naegele, the incident happened just after 7:00 p.m. at the Willoughby Hills Towers on Chardon Road. Police were called to the scene after reports of multiple shots being fired in the parking lot. When officers arrived, they found the victim on the north side parking deck of the apartment complex. He sustained a gunshot wound, which is believed to be non-life threatening. The victim was transported to an area hospital by Willoughby Hills Fire / EMS where he is being treated.
Early reports show that at least two suspects arrived to the apartment complex in a newer model, bright red pickup truck. The victim, who was standing by his own vehicle in the parking lot, was approached by a suspect described as a Black male, early twenties, clean shaven.
The suspect reportedly took out a semi-automatic pistol, assaulted the victim, and then shot him. The suspect then entered the victim’s vehicle described as a 2010 black Ford Fusion and fled the scene along with the red pickup truck that the suspects arrived in. The stolen Ford Fusion reportedly struck several vehicles in the parking lot causing front end damage to the Ford.
Both vehicles reportedly fled east on Chardon Road towards the area of Bishop Road and Interstate 90.
