EUCLID, Ohio — Law enforcement officials teamed up with members of the U.S. Postal Inspector Service to raid an apartment in Euclid as part of an ongoing investigation into mail theft.
According to Rocky River Police Chief George Lichman, members of the Rocky River Police Department were joined by officers from the Cleveland Division of Police, the Euclid Police Department, and the Westshore Enforcement Bureau SWAT team. The cooperating departments and the U.S. Postal Inspector Service executed a search warrant at an apartment in the 26600 block of Tungsten Road in Euclid.
Lichman says the apartment was unoccupied at the time officers arrived. There were no arrests or injuries. He added that evidence related to the theft of mail and other crimes was seized.
3News reached out to the U.S. Postal Inspector Service for additional information. "In order to preserve the integrity of our investigations and to prevent fundamental unfairness to any potential subjects of those investigations, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service does not confirm, deny, or otherwise comment on the existence of its ongoing investigations," the department told us in an email.
Last month, 3News' Amani Abraham reported that local and federal law enforcement have been investigating a string of United States Postal Service mailbox thefts that have been reported across Northeast Ohio.
The Parma Police Department has had multiple reports of mailbox thefts since November. So far, the amount of stolen money reported in the city stands at more than $300,000. The postal service told 3News at the time that several area arrests had been made and the investigation is ongoing.
