SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio — A 42-year-old male is in police custody today after officials found the mail of Bath Township residents in his vehicle during a traffic stop.
According to Bath Township Police officials, Kevin L. Jordan of Akron was stopped by officers around 11 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28, near the intersection of Medina Road and Cleveland Massilon Road. Police say that the male had failed to follow proper lane change measures.
During the stop, Jordan consented to a search of his vehicle, which is when officers discovered personal property and mail that belonged to residents of Bath Township.
Jordan was promptly arrested and charged with receiving stolen property and failure to use a turn signal.
Police tell 3News that they believe Jordan to be connected to a recent string of mail thefts in the Bath Township area, as well as several other surrounding communities. Detectives are currently processing the recovered evidence and say they will be contacting anyone who had property found inside of Jordan's vehicle.
At this time, officials are recommending that homeowners avoid placing outgoing mail in residential mailboxes. Police also recommend signing up for informed delivery with the United States Postal Service, which can be done here.
This is a developing story. Check back with 3News for updates.
