A four-month long drug investigation by Trumbull County law enforcement has uncovered an alleged dog fighting operation in Warren.
According to 3News' NBC sister station 21 News WFMJ, police arrived at a home on Austin Avenue on Tuesday morning for what what was believed to be just a search warrant to uncover dangerous drugs.
Police told 21 News that in addition to possible drugs, they discovered several dogs they believe are a part of a dog fighting operation. They added that it was one of the worst dog fighting operations they have ever seen in the city of Warren.
Seven dogs were found at another location apart from where police originally conducted the search warrant.
The dogs were loaded up into two vehicles after being taken out of cages where they were being kept. Authorities said some of the dogs appeared to be a little underweight and will be checked out by a local veterinarian.
The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County as well as Warren police were on the scene.
Charges are pending for at least one suspect in the case.
