WALTON HILLS, Ohio — A vigil is set for 7 p.m. Monday at Cleveland Lakefront State Park as the community mourns the death of 26-year-old Shemsi Baraka, which comes a few days after he was killed in a shooting in Walton Hills.

A flyer for the vigil indicates April 1 would’ve been his 27th birthday.

In details announced last week, the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office said Baraka was shot multiple times in the 17300 block of Sagamore Road.

The Walton Hills Police Department shared the following statement about the incident on their Facebook page back on March 27:

In response to the homicide investigation in the Village of Walton Hills, BCI, Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office, and the Village are actively pursuing an investigation in the death of the individual. The Village of Walton Hills cannot currently comment about the investigation. BCI and the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office are involved due to their expertise in these matters. An update will be provided to the public at the appropriate time. The Village would state that this is believed to be an isolated incident and involves no threat to Village residents or the residents of surrounding communities. The Village would urge the public not to speculate out of respect for the victim's family. Further, any speculation may result in causing panic and/or impede the investigation. Thank you for understanding the confidential nature of the investigation.
