CLEVELAND — A St. Edward High School part-time wrestling coach has been indicted on rape and sexual battery charges.
The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office says Dan Gonsor sexually assaulted two teenagers who were team members between June 2015 and July 2019. The case was investigated by the Lakewood Police Department.
The 30-year-old Gonsor was indicted for the following charges:
- 1 count of Rape
- 2 counts of Attempted Rape
- 2 counts of Sexual Battery
- 2 counts of Felonious Assault
- 2 counts of Endangering Children
- 2 counts of Corrupting Another With Drugs
- 9 counts of Gross Sexual Imposition
“Gonsor violated his position of authority and trust and he will be held accountable,” said Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley in a statement.
In December, St. Edward Principal KC McKenna confirmed that police were investigating following allegations of "inappropriate behavior of a sexual nature" by a part-time coach that came from a student's family. McKenna said administrators immediately contacted the Lakewood Police Department. The coach (Gonsor) was placed in indefinite suspension and was not allowed to have any contact with anyone associated with the school.
The city of Cleveland confirmed to 3News that Gonsor is a member of the Cleveland Division of Fire. Lt. Mike Norman says Gonsor has been placed on unpaid leave pending the outcome of the case. Cleveland Police officials add that Gonsor "will have a pre-disciplinary hearing with the Director of Public Safety in the near future at which point his employment status will be determined."
Arraignment for Gonsor has been scheduled for February 19.
