AKRON, Ohio — The Summit County Sheriff's Office has announced that another suspect wanted for the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old man on I-77 in Green last year has been captured.
On Thursday, the sheriff's office announced that 23-year-old Giovanni Porter has been arrested and transported to the Summit County Jail. Last week, a warrant was taken out for the arrest of Porter, who is from Carrollton, Texas. Porter has been charged with murder.
No additional details about Porter's arrest were provided.
Officials say the fatal shooting happened on Aug. 3, 2023, when a passenger in a pickup truck fired several rounds at a Lincoln SUV on I-77 South in Green, near the Akron-Canton Airport. As the truck fled the area, the Lincoln veered across the median and into the northbound lanes, where it struck a Mercedes that was not initially involved in the incident.
Marquise Banks, the 23-year-old driver of the Lincoln, was later pronounced dead at Summa Akron City Hospital. The driver of the Mercedes was also injured in the crash.
In December, Summit County Sheriff's deputies arrested 18-year-old Sirvonte Suggs at a home on Florida Avenue in Akron. He was indicted earlier this month and pleaded not guilty to the multiple charges against him, which include aggravated murder, murder, and felonious assault. Sheriff's deputies say an additional suspect has also been arrested.
