CLEVELAND — Members of the U.S. Marshals Service's Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force have arrested a suspect in connection with a deadly East Cleveland shooting that took place back in April.
Officials say Vernitez Bell, 36, was captured on Wednesday at a home on Argus Avenue in Cleveland, about two miles north of where the fatal incident took place. Bell is accused of killing 38-year-old Domonick Allen on April 4 on East Cleveland's 5th Avenue.
Crime Stoppers of Cuyahoga County had initially offered a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest of a suspect in Allen's death. Authorities eventually zeroed in on Bell, with information leading them to the Collinwood residence.
"Taking violent fugitives off the street is one of our primary responsibilities, and the men and women that make up the US Marshals violent fugitive task force take pride in doing that everyday for the citizens of northern Ohio," U.S. Marshal Pete Elliot said in a statement.
Bell, who has no prior felony history in Cuyahoga County, is currently being processed and is expected to be arraigned at a later date.
