CLEVELAND — Three men face long prison sentences for their roles in the murder of a Cleveland beverage store owner, along with multiple other armed robberies.
Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O'Malley says over 24 days, 20-year-old Keyshawn Smith, 19-year-old Andre McKelvey, and 22-year-old Robert McKelvey Jr., committed armed robberies of stores and gas stations in Cleveland, University Heights and Maple Heights.
On February 19, 2019, Cleveland police were called to an armed robbery and shooting at a beverage store near Lakeview Road and Durant Avenue.
When police arrived, they found a 33-year-old Rocky River man with a gunshot wound to his head. He did not survive.
Cleveland police homicide detectives identified the McKelveys and Smith to the crime scene and identified Smith as the trigger-man.
As police continued their investigation, they found that the trio were also responsible for seven armed robberies around Cuyahoga County.
Smith pled guilty to Aggravated Murder and Aggravated Robbery. He was sentenced to life in prison.
McKelvey and McKelvey Jr. pled guilty to Involuntary Manslaughter and Aggravated Robbery. They were sentenced to 21 years and 14 years in prison respectively.
