CLEVELAND — The U.S. Marshals' Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) announced the capture of the suspect wanted for the Jan. 2 aggravated murder of a 17-year-old in Cleveland's Slavic Village neighborhood.
Task force members arrested 20-year-old Kevin Wright in the 4300 block of East 164th Street on Thursday. Marshals report that Wright "initially attempted to evade officers on foot but was quickly apprehended."
According to the Cleveland Division of Police, officers from the 4th District responded to the area of the 6800 block of Fleet Avenue and discovered a 17-year-old male unconscious and laying in the street.
Records from the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identify the victim as Tyrone Griffin.
Preliminary investigation indicated that Griffin was allegedly struck by a moving vehicle and then shot in the head.
Wright was later identified and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
“For over two decades, the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force and the Cleveland Division of Police have been working together to combat violent crime in the City of Cleveland by taking violent fugitives like this off the street," U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated in a release announcing the arrest.
