Warrensville Heights man charged with murder of Amanda Williams turns self in

Tirrell Edwards turned himself in to Warrensville Heights police on Friday. He was indicted for the death of Amanda Williams earlier this week.

CLEVELAND — A 41-year-old man indicted by a Cuyahoga County grand jury for the murder of 46-year old Amanda Williams in Warrensville Heights is in custody.

According to a release from the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office, the grand jury returned an indictment charging Tirrell Edwards for shooting and killing Williams in their shared residence in Warrensville Heights.

On Thursday afternoon, an arrest warrant was issued for Edwards. However, the prosecutor's office said attempts to locate and apprehend Edwards were unsuccessful.

Warrensville Heights police say Edwards turned himself in on Friday morning at approximately 7:30 a.m. and is now in custody.

On October 10 at around 11:40 p.m., the Warrensville Heights Police Department responded to a call from Edwards stating he had just killed his fiancé. Police responded to the scene and found Williams shot at their home in the 19700 block of Sunset Drive.

Williams was transported to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. Warrensville Heights police say a “male person of interest” was detained, but later released.

Edwards was indicted on the following charges on Wednesday:

  • One count of Aggravated Murder
  • Two counts of Murder
  • Two counts of Felonious Assault
  • One count of Domestic Violence

“A thorough investigation and review of this case led us to the unmistakable conclusion that the death of Amanda Williams was an intentional homicide without justification,” said Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley in a statement. “Today, a grand jury composed of citizens from our county reached the same conclusion and voted to indict Tirrell Edwards. My thoughts and prayers remain with Amanda Williams’s family and friends."

He will be arraigned at the Cuyahoga County Justice Center at a later date.
