CLEVELAND — Zachary Michael Pettry, the Cleveland man accused of crashing his car into a Parma house and striking a child while intoxicated on July 4, had his arraignment on Wednesday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.
The 32-year-old Pettry pleaded not guilty after being indicted on the following charges by a grand jury earlier this month:
- Aggravated vehicular assault
- Vehicular assault
- Driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Vandalism
- Criminal damaging
Bond for Pettry was continued at $100,000. He was ordered to have no contact with the victims and be under GPS monitoring. A pretrial hearing has been scheduled for August 20.
Police and fire officials in Parma say a vehicle speeding down West 54th Street on the night of July 4 first struck a stopped car, crashed into a house near the intersection of West 54th and Velma Avenue, and finally hit a 4-year-old girl.
In its police report, Parma officers say they found the 4-year-old girl with "a large laceration about her right eye" and "bleeding heavily from her head." The child was taken to University Hospitals Parma Medical Center and was released the morning after the incident.
No one in the home was hurt.
Police say Pettry had "a large laceration" on his head with "a large amount of blood." When asked by an officer if he knew where he was, Pettry allegedly responded by saying, "Florida."
