Barberton schools suspend main route bus service citing pandemic challenges

'Please know that we are doing everything possible to keep our students in front of our teachers.'

BARBERTON, Ohio — Editor's note: Video at the top of this story was originally published in an unrelated school bus article on Sept. 13, 2021.

The Barberton City School District has announced they will be suspending some of their bus services due to “challenges of delivering education and services to students during a pandemic.”

According to a statement from the district on their Facebook page Tuesday, transportation services for the main bus route are suspended from Sept. 29 until Oct. 7. The regular bussing schedule will resume on Monday, Oct. 11.

Since this only impacts the main route, bus services will remain intact for Preschool, 4 Cities Compact, students with special needs and afterschool activities.

Students who usually travel via the main route bus and are affected by the suspension of services have two options:

Find another mode of transportation to the school. Early drop-off will be available at all the buildings.

Students will be allowed to log in and participate in their classes remotely. Teachers will still be recording attendance for the remote students.

Barberton City School District encourages those who have specific questions to reach out to their student’s particular schools.

“Please know that we are doing everything possible to keep our students in front of our teachers,” school officials said in their Facebook post. “We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this challenge!”
