CLEVELAND — An ALDI employee in Cleveland has tested positive for COVID-19 coronavirus.
The employee apparently works in the dry produce department.
3News received the following statement from an ALDI spokesperson on Saturday evening:
The health and well-being of our employees and customers is our highest priority. We can confirm that on March 17 an employee informed us that they tested positive for COVID-19. We have been working closely with local health officials to respond as quickly and responsibly as possible.
The employee is in quarantine and on paid leave and we are doing everything we can to ensure they receive the attention they need. The employee has not been in any ALDI facilities for over a week.
We are partnering with state and local health experts and federal agencies, and following advice of the CDC and other health organizations. Upon learning of the positive test result, we communicated with employees and immediately activated sanitation and intense cleaning procedures.
On Saturday afternoon, the Ohio Department of Health announced that 247 people statewide have been confirmed with COVID-19. There are 92 confirmed cases in Cuyahoga County, 24 of them in Cleveland. Three Ohioans have died.
