The first $1 million vaccine lottery winner will be announced on Wednesday night.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Editor's note: Video at the top of this story was originally published on May 21, 2021.

With Ohio’s COVID vaccine lottery set to announce the first of five $1 million winners this week, Governor Mike DeWine is back with another press conference to provide updates in the state’s status with the coronavirus pandemic.

We will stream the 2 p.m. press conference live inside this story.

Although his office provided no details on what Gov. DeWine will cover in his press conference, we anticipate the state's Vax-a-Million vaccine lottery incentive will be a primary focal point.

"Since we came out with the Vax-a-Million, we've seen a dramatic change in the number of people getting vaccinated in Ohio," Gov. DeWine said last Friday. "Quite candidly, the numbers had taken a significant drop when the Johnson & Johnson vaccine was taken off of the market."

Last week, the Ohio Department of Health announced that more than one million Ohioans had entered the vaccine lottery.

“We are seeing increasing numbers in all age groups, except those 80 and older, who are highly vaccinated already,” ODH Director Stephanie McCloud previously said. “Although the rate among that group is decreasing, it is doing so at a less rapid pace, demonstrating some positive impact even in that group.”

The first $1 million vaccine lottery winner will be announced at 7:29 p.m. Wednesday. We will reveal the winner's name right here on WKYC.com.
