CLEVELAND — The Ohio Department of Agriculture has announced a “health alert” for various food items sold at a Pop-n-Place Shell Gas Station in Cleveland due to “misbranding issues that involve undeclared allergens.”
State officials say all impacted food items were sold from the cooler section at the gas station, which is located at 7210 Memphis Ave. These items may include the following:
- Bakery items including individual slices of cheesecake and frosted cake slices in clam shell containers
- Pudding in plastic deli containers
- Fried chicken pieces in large clam shell containers
- Ready-to-eat leafy green salads in large clam shell containers
- Deli salads (potato, macaroni) in small deli containers
“This alert is the result of a routine inspection conducted by the ODA Food Safety Division,” officials with the Ohio Department of Agriculture said in a press release. “Anyone who purchased these products that has food allergies or sensitivities should discard the products. If consumed, individuals with food allergies or sensitivities run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction. Individuals exhibiting signs or symptoms of food-borne illness or allergies should contact a physician immediately.”
ODA lists possible food allergy symptoms as follows:
- Rash or hives
- Itchy skin
- Headache
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Cramping stomach pain
- Diarrhea
- Heartburn
- Shortness of breath
- Chest pain
- Swelling of the airways to the lungs
