CLEVELAND — The 22nd running of the Akron Marathon is set for Saturday, Sept. 28.
The festivities begin Friday with a Health & Fitness Expo presented by the Akron Area YMCA, held at the John S. Knight Center from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Whether you're participating as a runner or as a spectator, below is a guide with the major details you need to know about this year's Akron Marathon.
Friday, Sept. 27
Health & Fitness Expo
- Location: John S. Knight Center
- Time: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Every marathon participant must pick up their packets at the Health & Fitness Expo on Friday. Participant shirts are located at the end of the Expo Hall. The docket for the Health & Fitness Expo includes a panel discussion with returning champions, a Q & A with race medical director Nilesh Shah, taping and foam rolling instructions and more.
Kids Fun Run
- Start location: 214 West Bowery St.
- Finish location: 300 South Main St.
- Bibb pickup: 5 p.m
- Race start: 6 p.m.
- Post-race activities close: 7:30 p.m.
The kids fun run is free for all children ages 12 and younger. Participants get a gift, medal and a healthy snack.
Saturday, Sept. 28
Marathon, Half Marathon & Team Relay
- Start location: 1 South High St.
- Finish location: 300 South Main St.
- Opening Ceremony: 6 a.m.
- Wheelchair Division and Push Team Start: 6:59 a.m.
- Marathon, Half Marathon and Team Relay Start: 7 a.m.
- Course closes: 1:40 p.m.
Finisher Festival
- Location: 300 South Main St.
- Time: 7:35 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.
Includes food trucks, a beer tent, merchandise tent, live music and more. Participants receive a drink ticket that can be redeemed for two drinks.

Road closures and parking
There will be several road closures in the city of Akron Friday and Saturday. Real-time, interactive traffic maps will be available on race day through the Waze website and app.
