CLEVELAND — A 70-year-old man is recovering in an Akron hospital after being shot multiple times on Saturday morning, police said.
A 30-year-old man is in police custody in connection to the shooting. Charges are pending.
According to an Akron Police Department spokesperson, the shooting took place at around 10:18 a.m. near a bus stop in front of the Akron-Summit County Public Library on South Main Street.
Detectives are still looking into the "exact circumstances" that led up to the incident, the spokesperson said via a media release.
Police said the suspect allegedly ran away on foot after shooting the man. The 70-year-old victim, who was not identified by police as the investigation into the incident remains ongoing, was discovered with "multiple" gunshot wounds. Police rendered first aid at the scene while other officers searched for the suspect.
The suspect, whose name has also not been released, was tracked in the area of Park Street and Summit Street after police were able to gather a physical description of the man. He was arrested about five minutes after the alleged shooting.
According to police, the victim's injuries are described as "serious but non-life-threatening." Police said more details would be released "as soon as practical."
