AKRON, Ohio — A 39-year-old Akron man learned his sentence on Friday after murdering a man on New Year's Eve of 2019.
Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Susan Baker Ross sentenced Dustin Austin to life in prison for the murder of Darrick Boyer. Austin will be eligible for parole after serving 31 years of prison time.
Previously, on June 9, a grand jury in Summit County found Austin guilty of the following charges:
- Aggravated Murder with a Gun Specification
- Two Counts of Murder with Gun Specifications
- Felonious Assault with a Gun Specification
- Aggravated Robbery with a Gun Specification
- Kidnapping with a Gun Specification
- Having a Weapon Under Disability
On Dec. 31, 2019, Boyer along with several others were at the home of Mariah Austin, who he has children with. An argument happened between the two and Mariah's cousin, Dustin, was called to the home. Dustin and Deonbra Mosley came to the house and ordered Boyer at gunpoint to take off his clothes. As Boyer attempted to leave, Dustin shot and killed him.
32-year-old Mosley pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter with a firearm specification on June 26, in connection with the murder.
Mosley is currently serving a sentence of 13-18 years in prison.
