CLEVELAND — A man was arrested in connection to a domestic altercation that left his mother dead and an elderly man injured with multiple stab wounds, Akron police said Wednesday.
According to the Akron Police Department, officers arrived to a home on Bronson Road at around 4:40 p.m. and found a 59-year-old woman and a 74-year-old man suffering from multiple stab wounds. The woman, identified as Courtney A. Jones-Hunter, was later pronounced dead.
The Summit County Medical Examiner ruled Jones-Hunter's cause of death to be "stab wounds to the neck."
The 74-year-old man was rushed to Summa Health Akron City Hospital with "critical injuries" and is currently listed in stable condition, police said.
A 40-year-old man, whom police said is "reportedly the deceased woman’s son," was found inside the home and immediately arrested without incident.
"Based on preliminary information gathered, it appears that the suspect assaulted the victims with a knife and later called 911 to report the incident," the APD said in a news release. "Detectives are working to understand more about the circumstances that contributed to the tragedy."
He was transported to the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center with a non-life-threatening hand injury.
Further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Charges against the 40-year-old are pending, police said.
