AKRON, Ohio — 40-year-old Dakinga York of Akron has been sentenced to serve between 15 to 20.5 years in prison for charges connected to a deadly shooting that happened last summer.
Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich says York pleaded guilty to the following:
- Voluntary manslaughter with a firearm specification: A felony of the first degree
- Aggravated assault: A felony of the fourth degree
- Tampering with evidence: A felony of the third degree
The prosecutor’s office says the case dates back to Aug. 12, 2023, when “York shot Veronica Bell following a physical altercation.”
As 3News previously reported last year, the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office said the shooting happened around 1:50 a.m. in the 2200 block of 8th Street Southwest. Bell, 45, died as a result.
