AKRON, Ohio — A motorcyclist has died following a two-vehicle crash earlier this week, Akron police say.
At approximately 8:17 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, police say a 51-year-old man was driving a motorcycle southbound on Brittain Road. According to officers, the motorcycle made a move to pass vehicles in front of him by traveling left of center on the roadway.
According to the police report, when a 20-year-old man driving a Mazda heading northbound on Brittain Road attempted to make a left turn into a driveway, the motorcyclist struck the Mazda. The motorcyclist was immediately ejected from the bike upon impact.
The operator of the motorcycle was transported to Summa Health Akron City Hospital with serious injuries. Akron police were notified on Wednesday afternoon that the motorcyclist died. His name is being withheld pending family notification.
The driver of the Mazda suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. The passenger in his vehicle was uninjured.
The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
"Speed appears to have been a contributing factor to the crash; however, it is unknown if alcohol played a role," Akron police stated.
