7-year-old boy suffers serious injuries after struck by alleged hit-and-run vehicle in Akron

Police have withheld the driver’s name, only identifying him as a 59-year-old man.

AKRON, Ohio — A 7-year-old boy was taken to the hospital with serious injuries Tuesday after Akron police say he was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle while riding his bike shortly after 4 p.m. in the 2500 block of 30th Street SW.

The child is listed in stable condition as of Wednesday afternoon, according to Akron police.

THE SUSPECT

“Officers developed information not long after the incident, including a description of the vehicle involved,” police said in a press release.

With the assistance of the Barberton Police Department and Flock license plate readers, the suspect and vehicle were later located at an address in the 100 block of Norwood Street.

“The driver reportedly admitted to being involved in the accident,” according to Akron police.

Police have withheld the driver’s name, only identifying him as a 59-year-old man, as they say charges will be pending the outcome of the investigation.

Anybody with information about the incident is asked to call the Akron Police Department Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490 or 330-375-2Tip.
