AKRON, Ohio — A 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a Friday night shooting that left two people hurt in Akron.
Police say it was around 7:35 p.m. when police responded to the scene in the 2000 block of 6th Street SW where they found a man who reportedly had an unloaded handgun on the ground at his feet.
Police say the man -- identified as Gregory Prunty -- claimed he had a gun pulled on him and later shot two people to defend himself.
A 36-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman were found around the corner on nearby Sharon Street with gunshot wounds, according to Akron police. The man had been struck multiple times, while police say the woman had a graze wound.
Both were taken to the hospital for treatment with non-life threatening injuries.
“Detectives ultimately charged Prunty with two counts of felonious assault and discharging firearms after developing additional information and sorting through the evidence,” according to a press release from Akron police.
Police say the shooting “stemmed from an ongoing dispute between Prunty and the victims.”
Prunty was taken to the Summit County Jail.
