50-year-old man hurt in Akron shooting Sunday night

Officers detained a 60-year-old man at the scene. Akron police say he was brought in for questioning and later released pending the outcome of the investigation.

AKRON, Ohio — A 50-year-old man was taken to the hospital after a late-night shooting in the 1300 block of Kentucky Avenue in Akron.

It was around 10:40 p.m. Sunday when officers responded to the scene and reported finding the victim on the ground in front of a home with apparent gunshot wounds.

“According to preliminary information, the subject arrived at the home to check the property,” according to a press release from Akron police. “The subject alleged that the victim, who was inside the house at the time, confronted him when he walked inside, and an altercation ensued. During the alleged altercation, the victim was shot.”

Officers detained a 60-year-old man at the scene. Akron police say he was brought in for questioning “and later released pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.”

Police say a handgun and other evidence was recovered at the scene.

No arrests have been made at this time. Anybody with information is asked to call the Akron Police Department Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490 or 330-375-2Tip.

Police say the victim is currently listed in critical condition as of Monday morning.
