The Akron Symphony Orchestra is permanently slashing ticket prices for college students and children under 18 as part of an effort to make live orchestral music more accessible to young audiences.

The orchestra announced Thursday that kids and college students with a valid student ID will now be able to buy discounted tickets for $7 each during its 2024-25 classical season.

Before Thursday, student and children tickets were $15. College students were only able to buy tickets at that price through a "student rush" pricing system in the final 30 minutes before a concert. That time barrier is now removed, and college students can pre-order their $7 tickets at any time.

"We're thrilled to offer students and young music lovers the chance to experience the magic of live orchestral music for just $7.” says Akron Symphony Orchestra Executive Director Paul Jarrett. “It's our way of making the arts more accessible, and inspiring the next generation of music fans.”

According to the ASO, the discounted tickets will be for either the best available seat, or assigned next to an accompanying adult or senior ticket.

Tickets can be purchased online at akronsymphony.org or by phone at 330-535-8131. Tickets will also be sold at the box office of E.J. Thomas Hall during the week of each concert.

The symphony began its classical season on Sept. 21. Here's a look at some of the major works the orchestra is playing in its remaining concerts this season:
