AKRON, Ohio — An investigation is underway after an Akron woman died as a result of a single-vehicle crash.
Akron police say the crash happened at around 6:25 a.m. on Monday when a Chevrolet Equinox failed to negotiate a curve on Ghent Road. The driver allegedly veered off the left side of the road, striking a concrete sign in the 300 block of Ghent Road.
Moments later, the vehicle caught fire under the hood, but the flames were quickly extinguished.
As a result of the crash, the driver, a 28-year-old Akron woman, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. At this time, the victim's identity has not yet been released.
Akron police believe that speed or alcohol was not a contributing factor in the crash.
