AKRON, Ohio — Akron police are searching for a 40-year-old man after after a 45-year-old woman was killed.
The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office says the shooting happened on Saturday, Aug. 12, at around 1:50 a.m. at a home in the 2200 block of 8th Street Southwest in Akron.
Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found the victim lying on the ground outside with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim later died on Tuesday, Aug. 15, at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center as a result of her injuries.
The Summit County Medical Examiner has since identified the victim as 45-year-old Veronica Bell of Akron.
Akron police are investigating the woman's death as a homicide. Early in the investigation, detectives identified 40-year-old Dakinga York as a person of interest in the shooting. Investigators believe that there was an altercation inside the residence in the moments leading up to the shooting.
An arrest warrant for York, who left the scene before authorities arrived, as been issued. A picture of York can be seen below.
