12-year-old boy dies days after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bike in Ashland County

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the Silverado’s driver -- 55-year-old James Dwayne Taylor -- was not hurt and stayed at the scene of the crash.

AKRON, Ohio — A 12-year-old boy identified as Tye David Miezejewski of Sullivan Township died Sunday at Akron Children’s Hospital days after he was struck by a vehicle while riding his bike in Ashland County.

It was around 3:39 p.m. on Friday when authorities say a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado struck the child while traveling southbound on County Road 681 near Township Road 350.

Tye had been flown to Akron Children’s Hospital after the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the Silverado’s driver -- 55-year-old James Dwayne Taylor -- was not hurt and stayed at the scene. He was arrested for operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

The crash remains under investigation and authorities say additional criminal charges against Taylor are pending through the Ashland County Prosecutor’s Office.
