AKRON, Ohio — A 1-year-old child has died following a shooting Sunday night in the 1200 block of 5th Avenue in Akron.
Officers responded to the scene around 9:30 p.m. where they say an unknown suspect fired shots at a home, striking the child. The child was taken to a nearby hospital and later died, according to police.
“A man and woman (ages 48 and 47) were also struck during the shooting,” the Akron Police Department said in a press release. “They both sustained gunshot wounds to their lower extremities.”
Both were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities said their injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
The child’s name is not being released at this time. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy.
Detectives said it's believed a newer black or dark-colored Dodge Ram pickup truck may be involved.
The investigation is currently in the early stages. Police say no arrests have been made at this time.
