AKRON, Ohio — Authorities say three people have died following an afternoon crash in Akron on Easter Sunday.
Authorities say it happened around 6:12 p.m. as a Saturn with three men was traveling southbound on Case Avenue “at a high rate of speed.”
“The driver of the Saturn ran the red light and struck a second vehicle, a Chevy Cruze, that was making a left (northbound) turn onto Case from E. Market Street,” according to a press release. “After the collision, the driver of the Saturn lost control of the vehicle and continued through the intersection, striking a concrete barrier and eventually crashing down into the canal. One of the occupants was trapped inside the car, and the two other males were ejected.”
Rescue crews with the Akron Fire Department responded to the scene and extricated the one trapped inside the vehicle and pulled the two others from the water. Here’s each of their names:
- 25-year-old Arlo Mosley.
- 18-year-old Raymond Wanzo.
- 17-year-old Zion Jackson Grisby
Driver of the Chevy Cruze was not hurt.
Akron police tell 3News the situation started as a traffic stop for a violation, but say the driver fled at a high rate of speed as authorities approached the vehicle.
“Speed appears to be a contributing factor in the accident,” police said. “The crash and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. No additional information is available at this time.”
