GREEN, Ohio — The Summit County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a Tuesday afternoon crash that overturned a garbage truck and left the driver with serious injuries.
The crash occurred on Interstate 77 South near the Lauby Road exit at approximately 3:35 p.m. A 54-year-old male garbage truck driver failed to maintain clear distance behind a freightliner before crashing into the rear of the freightliner. The truck careened off the left side of the roadway and overturned before coming to a stop under the Lauby Road overpass.
The southbound lanes of Interstate 77 were completely shut down for approximately one hour after the crash. All lanes were reopened approximately five hours after the crash occurred.
The driver of the garbage truck sustained serious injuries and was transported to Akron City Hospital by the Green Fire Department. There is currently no update on the injury status of the 32-year-old freightliner driver.
Drugs and Alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash according to the Sheriff’s Office. The crash remains under investigation.
