CLEVELAND — An elderly woman was rescued from a burning home in Akron Wednesday morning, the city's fire department said.
Firefighters responded to a report of a house on fire with people trapped on Hancock Avenue at around 4:55 a.m. When crews arrived, smoke and flames were showing from the window on the ground floor of the house's facade.
Neighbors told firefighters an elderly woman was still in the house. When crews entered the home to fight the fire from directly inside, firefighters were able to rescue the woman by pulling her through a window at the back of the house. The woman was taken to a hospital to be evaluated further.
No other injuries were reported. The Akron Fire Department said firefighters extinguished the fire by about 5:08 a.m.
In total, three adults and three children were displaced in the fire and are being assisted by the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
